Miley Cyrus Is Ready to Return to Acting with a ‘Character That Is Bigger Than Me’

Miley Cyrus isn’t jaded about Hollywood, but she sure as hell isn’t going to take roles that don’t resonate with her.

The Grammy winner told W magazine that after more than five years away from leading roles, she is looking to return to acting. Cyrus most recently led a 2019 “Black Mirror” episode.

“So, I would like to act again. But the role would really need to be right,” Cyrus sad, “since it’s kind of hard for people to see past me and buy into a character. The character would either need to be an extension of myself, or someone — or something — with a personality that can conquer my own. I would need a character that is bigger than me.”

And presumably, not two characters. Cyrus began her career in iconic dual roles for “Hannah Montana” on the Disney Channel.

The former child star reflected on being a Disney alum, much like Zendaya and Austin Butler, the latter of which guested on her “Hannah Montana” series.

Cyrus called Disney “a great, safe experience overall” and that she doesn’t “have any bad feelings” about how much her hard work benefitted the giant media conglomerate.

“I worked really hard as a child. I didn’t go to prom. I didn’t go to dances,” she said. “I didn’t have so much of that social experience or time for friends.”

Her filmography also includes romantic dramas like “The Last Song” and coming-of-age stories such as “LOL.” There’s more where those came from, it sounds like, now that she finally feels like she is being “taken seriously” as a singer-songwriter.

“No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys? I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the fuck was I?” Cyrus said of winning her first Grammy Award for “Flowers.” “And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the fuck was I? This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself.”
