Miley Cyrus Recalls Finding 'Wildness in Myself' After Drinking and Smoking Pot for the First Time

The pop star opened up about discovering herself and her identity on 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman'

Miley Cyrus could never really be tamed.

The pop star, 31, appeared on the latest episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction where she opened up about discovering a "wildness" in herself and her identity while starring on Hannah Montana.

"I hadn’t quite left the show but I had started experiencing life," Miley told David Letterman. "Like, I had definitely been drunk by the time I saw you [on The Late Show with David Letterman]. I had drank, I smoked some pot."

She continued: "And I remember, there was a producer on set and he said, ‘I can tell, this lion is not going to go back into the cage’ because I had found the wildness in myself. And I just remembered everything changed when I started experiencing my life."

During their conversation, Miley also discussed the good and the bad things she's learned from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

"He has a relationship and a foot on the ground to the real and to nature and he always did, even when he was super famous," the "Flowers" singer said of her dad, who rose to stardom in country music with his hit "Achy Breaky Heart" in 1992. "I'm grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me. He's almost given me this map. And there's a map of what to do and what not to do, and he's guided me on both."

Miley added, "I also inherited the narcissism from my father."

In addressing her career, she said how her parents contributed to her success was "different," explaining to the talk show host, 77, that "they can't be weighed on the same scale, actually."

Miley said that without her dad she "wouldn't be sitting in this chair."

"I wouldn't exist — but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn't exist," the "Wrecking Ball" artist said. "Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we're very similar in our ideas. So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I've inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised — which really, my mom raised me."

Miley also noted that her mom Tish Cyrus, who also appeared on the special, is her "hero."
