Darlington schoolchildren and college students have made their mark on a new local home development, Westville Quarter, in a unique creative contest.

Housebuilder Miller Homes challenged students at West Park Academy and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College to design a dream bedroom and original artwork.

Entrants let their imaginations fly, with designs featuring rainbows, bunk beds, hammocks, and star-studded interiors.

Sales director of Miller Homes Teesside, Donna Clark said: "We have been overwhelmed by the number of entries we’ve had from both the school and the college, and the team has thoroughly enjoyed viewing them all.

"The college students are clearly very talented individuals and our interior designer, and her team found choosing a winner very challenging due to the amazing ideas the students presented to her."

The winning dream bedroom design came from eight-year-old Freya from West Park Academy, who devised a rainbow-themed room set to feature in one of the show homes.

Queen Elizabeth College had two joint winners, Esme and Lily whose artwork and fabric designs will be made into wallcoverings and fabrics for the show home.

Winning students gained practical interior design credits for use in their portfolios.

Felicity Stevens, director at Haus Interiors, who oversees the design of the show home, said: "The team and I were staggered by effort and skill that had clearly gone into these creations.

"We thoroughly enjoyed reviewing them all and now look forward to welcoming our joint winners to the site to help dress the room that their work will feature in and understand the finer points of finishing off a show home."

Winners and their families have been invited to the grand reveal when Westville Quarter, a development of 45 tailor-made homes, opens in the autumn.
