Word is that production is looking to ramp up by the end of the month in New Zealand. Coming out of the actors strike, this is a production that has seen some of its potential castings pull away due to other obligations on TV.

Writing credits on Minecraft are still being determined, and the pic’s plot is under wraps. The Mojang sandbox video game is reportedly the highest-selling of all time with over 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players as of this year.

The Minecraft film hails from Vertigo, co-financier Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft and Momoa’s On the Roam. Producers on the project include Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui and the late Jill Messick. EPs are Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza and Jonathan Spaihts.

Brooks was nominated for a Primetime Emmy as a co-EP on the movie Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia in 2021. She stars in the upcoming Warner Bros Christmas day theatrical release of the musical The Color Purple and plays Leota Adebayo on James Gunn’s Max DC series Peacemaker. For 89 episodes, Brooks portrayed Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black.

Brooks is repped by CAA, Door 24 and Paul Hastings.

Hansen made his big-screen debut in the Warner Bros’ Destin Daniel Cretton-directed drama Just Mercy opposite Oscar winner Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan. He recurred in the series Lisey’s Story for Apple and on the Prime Video series Mozart in the Jungle. He is repped by A3 Artists Agency, Forward Entertainment and attorney Ryan LeVine.

Warner Bros didn’t respond for request for comment.
