Missing Chicago P.D.? Blue Lights Might Scratch That Procedural Itch — Watch a Sneak Peek of BritBox’s Gripping Cop Drama

If you’re feeling a Voight — er, void in your life now that Chicago P.D. is on hiatus until the fall, an answer to those procedural blues is on its way from across the pond.

Blue Lights, a crime drama set in Northern Ireland, returns to BritBox for Season 2 with a two-episode premiere this Thursday. The hour-long series follows Grace (played by Sian Brooke, Trying), Annie (Katherine Devlin, Vikings) and Tommy (Nathan Braniff), three rookie constables learning the ropes in Belfast.

Season 2 starts a year after the events of Season 1, which ended with a brutal death of a beloved character. (We won’t spoil it in case you want to catch up — and you should! It’s just six episodes!) The McIntyre crime gang’s defeat just means that a lot of rival organizations are fighting to be on top, which means a lot more trouble for the show’s central trio to face… whether or not they’re ready.

This season finds Tommy introduced to the world of intelligence policing and its major pluses and minuses. The relationship between fellow officers Grace and Stevie (Martin McCann, Titanic: Blood and Steel) gets even more complicated, starting in Episode 1. And Constable Shane Bradley (Frank Blake, Normal People) joins the team; though at first glance he seems like one of the good guys, his motivations are murky.

It all builds, per the logline, to “a major gangland feud — culminating in a violent and devastating confrontation.”

The series is available to stream on BritBox. Two new Blue Lights episodes will debut every Thursday, with the six-episode second season wrapping up on June 27.
