A British teenager is still missing on the island of Tenerife since his last known sighting on Monday.

Jay Slater, 19 and from Blackburn, has been missing since Monday after last being seen by his friends on a night out on Sunday evening. According to Sky News, his friend Lucy was last to hear from him at 8.15am local time, when he called her to say he had gotten lost, had only one percent battery left on his phone and needed water.

She told the Manchester Evening News that Jay had met someone on the night out who had driven him back in a hire car without realising how far away it was. This meant Jay was left in the middle of nowhere.

Jay was then forced to walk, a journey which would have taken him 11 hours, but his phone soon cut out. His last known location was Rural de Teno park, a mountainous hiking area.

He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, shorts and trainers and he was carrying a black bag.

The Spanish Guardia Civil and local police are investigating, and a mountain rescue team is also assisting in the search. In addition, a police helicopter is also working to try to find Jay.

According to the Guardia Civil, the search is focusing on the village of Masca and its surrounding areas.

The British Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office have said they are supporting the family and are in contact with the Spanish authorities.
