The rapper J Hus has been arrested and appeared in court charged with possession of a knife.

The MOBO award-winning artist, whose real name is Momodou Jallow, was arrested after police stopped a car near the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre on Thursday afternoon.

Jallow, 23, appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on Friday and has been remanded into custody.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Officers in a marked police car stopped a vehicle in International Way, E20, at about 12.35pm on Thursday, 21 June.

“The occupants of the vehicle were searched and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife/bladed article.”

The acclaimed rapper rose to prominence following his 2016 Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, Common Sense.

Since then he has collaborated with major artists such as Stormzy and appeared on his 2017 hit album Gang Signs & Prayer.

Last year J Hus collected the award for best song at the MOBOs for his track Did You See. He was also nominated for three Brit Awards this year.

The rapper’s nickname refers to the then 19-year-old Jallow’s skill for making money, with the “Hus” in his stage name being short for hustler.

At school, he was known to sell supermarket doughnuts for profit as a mini business venture.
