Moment car bursts into flames after ring road crash

Dramatic footage shows flames engulfing a car after it crashed on a busy ring road.

The black Vauxhall crashed in Crawley Avenue in Crawley and spun around to face oncoming traffic.

It burst into flames and set a nearby hedgerow on fire alongside the main road, which links the north and west of the town with the M23.

Firefighters were quick to make it to the scene on Wednesday evening and had to wear breathing tanks due to the smoke.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "On May 22 at 8.45pm we responded to a road traffic collision at Crawley Avenue, Crawley.

"Joint Fire Control sent one fire engine from Crawley to the scene.

"Upon arrival the crew were confronted with a fire involving one car and hedgerow following on from the road traffic collision. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the fire using two hose reels.

"Fortunately there were no injuries.

"Officers from Sussex Police were also at the scene and a full road closure was in place while the incident was dealt with."

A spokesman for Sussex Police added: "No injuries were reported and no arrests were made."
