Moment Scots dad flees aggressive duck as hilarious TikTok goes viral

A dad's encounter with an aggressive duck has left TikTok users in stitches, with the video of the feathery fracas at a local fishery racking up millions of views overnight.

Aaron Somerville, from Kirkcaldy in Fife, was enjoying a peaceful day out at Balmule Valley Fishery, near Dunfermline, with his partner Catherine Farmer and their two children last April when the unexpected attack occurred.

The hilarious footage shows Aaron, 31, innocently reaching towards the water when a Cayuga duck suddenly launches itself at him, pecking ferociously at his ankles and instigating a wild chase along the walkway.

In a bid to dodge the duck's wrath, Aaron is seen sprinting away, while exclaiming: "Ah, ya b*****d." His young son Thomas can also be heard calling out in concern, "Daddy! " as the wild waterfowl continues to waddle after him.

The comical clip quickly went viral after being posted on TikTok, amassing over 8 million views in under a day. Speaking to the Record after the incident, Aaron saw the funny side.

The dad, who works as a manager at a food factory, said: "It was certainly eventful. I had just taken the little one fishing for the first time and at the point when the video was being taken I had just caught a fish.

"We were recording to show Thomas' first catch and he was warning me that the duck was coming but I had no idea - and then it grabbed my hand. I was stuck in two minds about what to do. People were surrounding me watching and I didn't want to kick it, so I just kept running.

"Even after the video cut off it was still going for me. I bought my son a bubble wand and I was using that to try and push it away from me. Thankfully it eventually went back into the water."

Aaron continued: "We have no idea why it went for me - but it decided it was going for me and no one else. My son was clapping his hands in hysterics."

Catherine shared the footage online to give their friends and family a laugh, but they never expected it to go viral. Aaron said: "I've had so many people contact me - it's crazy. It's had millions of views now. It's nuts. It's been good though, it's a good laugh."

The video attracted comments from across the globe, with viewers revelling in Aaron's misfortune. Andy H commented: "One of the funniest things I've seen for ages."

Evie replied: "The duck really said 'get outta ma pub'." Another user added: "I thought Scotsmen were a tough breed" with loads of laughing emojis.
