Monarch — set in the dual timelines of 1950s and 2010s — picks up primarily after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco. It was a monstrous battle that revealed to humanity a shocking truth: Monsters are real.

The series primarily follows two siblings as they trace their father’s footsteps, uncovering their connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. As they discover more clues, they’re led into an unimaginable world of monsters and down a rabbit hole that connects them to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell).

The organization is threatened by what Shaw knows, forcing three generations to reckon with buried secrets and how earth-shattering events reverberate through lives.

The show, co-developed and executive produced by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, expands Legendary’s Monsterverse — a series of interconnected stories bringing together some of pop culture’s most famous movie titans. Previous entries include 2014’s Godzilla and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. Next up is the anticipated sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Matt Shakman directs the first two episodes and serves as executive producer alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, Andy Goddard, Brad Van Arragon and Andrew Colville. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd.
