A mega thunderstorm is set to bring ten days of rain in just three hours, according to latest weather maps. It already feels like a summer has got off to a damp squib but parts of the country are set to be lashed by torrential rain - and it is only a week away.

That is according to Ventusky weather maps which predict that the south of the country will bear the brunt of the the worst of the weather with Brighton, Southend-on-Sea and Ipswich covered in stormy conditions, the Mirror has reported. In its forecast for next week, the Met Office has also confirmed a chance of 'heavy, thundery rain'.

"Following a couple of days of largely fine and settled weather, a gradual transition to more changeable conditions from the Atlantic is likely to take place with periods of cloud, rain and stronger winds most often affecting the west and northwest," it has said. "There remains a small chance of an area of heavy, thundery rain affecting parts of the south on Friday 21st, possibly accompanied by briefly hot and humid conditions."

The thunder update comes as Coventry and Warwickshire is set for a more settled week. But there will be some showers today (June 17) and tomorrow (June 18).

This will the lead to 'warmer' spells of sunshine as we head later into the week. The latest local Met Office forecast is as follows:

Today

Light rain moves southwards across the northern part of the region. Turning showery by midday but mostly dry with plenty of sunny spells in the south. Feeling warm in sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 C.

Tonight

Any daytime showers ease into the evening, turning a lot direr with clear spells across most parts. Cloud thickens overnight in the north and west by dawn. Staying mild. Minimum temperature 7C.

Tuesday

Cloud in the northwest breaks up through the morning, bringing sunny spells. Risk of showers in the east of the region but feeling warm in any sheltered spots. Maximum temperature 19C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday

Largely dry for the remainder of the week, though cloudier at times. Feeling warm in the sunnier interludes and winds light throughout.
