More Bad News For Top Gear As It Reaches Ten Year Ratings Low

Well, it seems even Joey Tribbiani’s infamous charm hasn’t been enough to save Top Gear from its ratings slump.

BBC

The third episode of the rebooted series on Sunday could only manage to pull in 2.4 million viewers, the lowest audience share for the show in a decade.

To be fair, it had some tough competition with a Euro 2016 match on BBC One and an extended Coronation Street on ITV, but, still, awks.

Chris Evans has constantly defended the viewing figures, saying that iPlayer and catch-up mean overnight ratings are no longer relevant.

Only one episode of Jeremy Clarkson’s version received a lower audience share and that was in 2003.

Even Sex and The City star Kim Cattrall has put the boot into the revamped show.

On Good Morning Britain this morning, she revealed that she had been asked to appear on it.

She quipped: “Now doesn’t seem like a good time!” Ouch.

Viewing figures have also been steadily decreasing but director of BBC Studios Mark Linsey has defended the reboot, saying: “I’m delighted with the first show, it’s BBC Two’s highest rating programme of the year. We wanted to be faithful to the original for the people who do love it.

“We want new people to come to it. It will evolve and change as the series goes on but definitely we wanted to be faithful to a much loved show by the viewers.”
