Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman has escaped unhurt after his private plane crash-landed after a tyre blew during take-off.

Flying from Clarksdale, Mississippi on Saturday, the actor - famed for appearing in classics such as ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ - was thankful for the quick-thinking nature of his pilot and is lucky to have emerged unscathed.

Making a statement on the incident, Freeman said: “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tyre blew on take-off, which caused other problems.”

He went on to say: “But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch.”

He even went on to make a slight joke, having noted that everyone was safe and sound: “I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety.”

The 78-year-old Hollywood star has been the subject of a number of cruel internet death hoaxes in recent years, and this latest incident will no doubt ignite a whole new thread of rumours.

Freeman won an Oscar in 2005 for his role in ‘Million Dollar Baby’, and, despite his age, has a packed schedule for 2016, with upcoming films ‘Ben-Hur’, ‘London Has Fallen’ and ‘Now You See Me 2′ due for release.
