Morgan Wallen arrested after allegedly throwing chair off rooftop of Eric Church’s Nashville bar

The country singer faces charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct after the Sunday night incident.

Country singer Morgan Wallen was arrested on Sunday night after allegedly throwing a chair off a six-story building in Nashville.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department confirmed the arrest on social media, sharing a photo of Wallen’s mugshot with the following statement: “Country artist Morgan Wallen, 30, was booked early today on 3 cts of felony reckless endangerment and 1 ct of misdemeanor disorderly conduct for throwing a chair from the rooftop of Chief's Bar Sun night. The chair landed on Broadway, close to 2 MNPD officers.”

Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest to Entertainment Weekly in the following statement: “At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”

Representatives for Wallen declined to comment further.

According to local Nashville news outlet WKRN, Wallen was booked into Metro Jail early on Monday morning and released a few hours later. Arrest documents obtained by the outlet offered additional details, claiming that two officers were standing in front of Chief’s Bar — an establishment owned by fellow country star Eric Church — when a chair came down the six-story building and hit the street approximately three feet away from them. Staff members later informed the officers that Wallen threw the chair and they allegedly corroborated the info with security footage from the bar.

Wallen was booked on charges of disorderly conduct and three counts of reckless endangerment, regarding both officers and danger to the public.

The country superstar is no stranger to courting controversy. In February 2021, the “Cowgirls” singer was captured on video using the N-word to describe a friend. The clip was later obtained by TMZ, which led to the suspension of his record label contract, removal from radio airplay, and disqualification from the 2021 Academy of Country Music Awards. Amid the fallout, Wallen issued an apology and indicated that he'd spoken with Black-led organizations, and was committed to working with them on educating himself on racist behavior.

Scandals aside, Wallen has continued to find success. Earlier this month, he kicked off his One Night at a Time Tour. He also recently received a nomination at this weekend’s CMT Awards for Male Video of the Year for his song, “Last Night (One Record At A Time Sessions).” Jelly Roll took home the win for his track, “Need A Favor.”
