PM to be challenged over Cummings's lockdown travel

Boris Johnson will today be challenged face to face by Conservative MPs on the actions of his senior aide Dominic Cummings during the lockdown.

Mr Cummings is at the centre of a political firestorm after it was revealed he travelled to Durham from London despite the coronavirus measures.

Dozens of Tory MPs have called for Mr Cummings to quit his post, but senior ministers and the Prime Minister have backed the controversial adviser.

Sunak expected to stop companies putting more employees into furlough scheme

Rishi Sunak is set to announce that the government will soon stop companies from putting more employees into its furlough scheme, according to reports.

The Chancellor is this week also expected unveil details of the contributions required from employers for the extension of the job retention scheme from the start of August.

The Treasury is said to be eyeing a cut-off date after which no employees would be allowed to join the scheme.

Trump tweet given fact-check warning by Twitter for first time

One of Donald Trump’s tweets has been given a fact-check label by Twitter for the first time.

The social media giant added the warning phrase to a post from US President calling mail-in ballots "fraudulent" and predicted that "mail boxes will be robbed.”

The warning label was shared under Twitter’s new policy on misleading information.

Nasa and SpaceX set to make history today with manned launched

Nasa and SpaceX are on course to make history today as they prepare to launch two astronauts into space from US soil for the first time since 2011.

Astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley will journey to the International Space Station at around 9.30pm UK time.

The spacecraft they will blast off in was built by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's firm.

It will also be the first time a private company has attempted to send astronauts into space.

Geri Horner and Ed Balls to swap day jobs for teaching in new show

Former Spice Girl Geri Horner will offer tips on creative writing while Tim Peake will discuss the science of space rockets as celebrities swap their day jobs for supply teaching in a new show.

The stars will give lessons to children in lockdown from their own homes in the CBBC series Celebrity Supply Teacher.

Also joining the virtual classroom are Ed Balls who will teach history and Heston Blumenthal who will give cookery tips.

The series will begin with Horner, who has written several children’s books, offering tips on creating a story and developing character, setting and plot.
