This Morning fans in uproar as star jets to Tenerife to search for missing Jay Slater

This Morning has been criticised for dispatching one of its correspondents to Tenerife in the hunt for missing teenager Jay Slater.

Isla Traquair boarded a flight to the island for a segment on Jay, retracing his last known movements from the nightclub he was last spotted at to the bus stop where he enquired about the next bus schedule. She ended up in the mountainous region where search teams were meticulously scanning the area for any sign of the young man, with helicopters hovering above.

Isla stated that her Scottish background had prepared her well for the challenging terrain but others might not be so fortunate.

However, this report aired just a day after the This Morning presenters had condemned TikTokers for probing into the case and cautioned others against travelling to Tenerife to participate in the same search. Angry viewers took to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their displeasure.

One fumed: “Isla now doing exactly what she scolded everyone else for? But she’s worse and taken in 5000 steps further.” As another said: “Isla ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is on the case now!”

More viewers chimed in to say: “Oh she’s not messing is she, after yesterday’s segment, ‘You know, I think it’d be a brilliant idea if I go to Tenerife’.” Someone else agreed: “Managed to wangle herself a trip to Tenerife!”

Somebody else pointed out: “Hold on, yesterday TikTok people going to Tenerife were getting in the way but it’s okay to send yet another reporter there?” Someone else joked: “Don’t worry, This Morning is on the hunt for Jay!”

Earlier this week, Isla joined hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on the sofa to discuss Jay’s case, explaining: “I am a crime journalist and I started when I was 16. My goodness the way things are covered has changed a lot. The Nicola Bulley case, I have never seen anything like it.

“There were TikTokers on the location of possibly a crime scene. There were people videoing when her body was found. We are seeing that now and it is exactly what’s happening with this story."

She reiterated: “TikTokers going out looking for him, while you might go that’s wonderful for people to volunteer but the police are saying, ‘Please don’t’.” But she ended up flying out despite her own warnings to the contrary.

Nick Ferrari also warned audiences: “We know the police have confirmed they got in the way of the Nicola Bulley case, these theorists. Some of them probably come from a good place, others I question. There is a degree of malice. It stops the investigators doing their job.”
