This Morning taken off air by ITV and schedule overhauled as show issues update to fans

This Morning fans were left disappointed on Friday as they didn't get to watch their favourite TV show and instead the whole daytime schedule was dominated by one thing.

It can't have escaped anyone's attention that there was the small matter of the General Election this week, with live coverage beginning on BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky News kicking in with the results of the exit poll at 10pm on Thursday, which indicated a massive landslide for Labour.

It was the job of Tom Bradby to lead ITV's coverage on Election night, with him joined by guests including Nicola Sturgeon and Ed Balls, before Good Morning Britain picked up the baton with an election special from 6am on Friday, with cameras there to see former PM lose her seat to Labour in Norfolk. GMB, which was forced to issue an apology after a row broke out on air, ended up being the one and only of ITV's usual daytime shows to air as planned, as Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women were all shelved.

If This Morning viewers were left in any doubt as to what was going on with the programme and why it wasn't on, a statement appeared on its official X account, which read: 'There's no #ThisMorning on your screens today, due to coverage of the #GeneralElection, but @benshephard and @catdeeley will be back with you next week with this star-studded lineup.

Ongoing reaction to the General Election result, led through the day by Julie Etchingham was set to run all the way through to 4pm, with the first non-Election broadcast being the first of the Euro 2024 semi finals, with coverage set to begin at 4pm.
