Update – December 13: The German publication Der Spiegel has now released what it claims is the full audio recording of its interview with Morrissey, after the singer denied making comments seemingly defending Kevin Spacey.

In the original interview, Morrissey appeared to defend House of Cards actor Kevin Spacey from the sexual harassment allegations against him, reportedly saying it was "ridiculous" that Spacey was being erased from forthcoming film All the Money in the World.

The singer later denied making comments seemingly defending the actor, and posted a statement on Facebook clarifying his position and saying the Der Spiegel has refused his team's request for the "unchopped, un-fiddled-with audio" to be released.

In deciding to release the audio from the interview, Der Spiegel adds that it wants to make it evident that the interview did not include "false or misleading citations".

Original article: Morrissey has apparently added his two cents to the conversation surrounding the sexual misconduct of Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein.

Speaking after several sexual harassment accusations against Spacey saw him removed from Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World, Morrissey reportedly said it was "ridiculous" that Spacey was being erased from the forthcoming film.

The Smiths frontman also allegedly claimed that he thinks the House of Cards actor had been "attacked unnecessarily", before appearing to defend the serially accused Harvey Weinstein.

"I was never in situations like this in my youth," Morrissey was quoted as saying by Der Spiegel.

"Never. I was always aware of what could happen. When you are in somebody's bedroom, you have to be aware of where that can lead to."

During the interview, Morrissey also reportedly had this to say about Weinstein, who has been accused of rape by a number of women – although the movie producer "unequivocally denies" all allegations of non-consensual sex against him.

"People know exactly what's going on," Morrissey is said to have added, "and they play along.

"Afterwards, they feel embarrassed or disliked. And then they turn it around and say, 'I was attacked, I was surprised'.

"But if everything went well, and if it had given them a great career, they would not talk about it," he continued.

"I hate rape... But in many cases, one looks at the circumstances and thinks that the person who is considered a victim is merely disappointed.

"Anyone who ever said 'I like you' to someone else is suddenly being charged with sexual harassment."
