MTV's “Real World: Miami ”alum Sarah Becker dies at 52

Her former costars have paid tribute to her memory: "May you skate with angels and never feel pain again."

Sarah Becker, a comic book store worker who appeared on The Real World: Miami, has died at the age of 52.

Becker died early last week at her home in Illinois from suicide, a family member told TMZ. Becker moved to the state last year to take care of family.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sarah Becker," an MTV spokesperson said in a statement shared with Entertainment Weekly. "Our hearts go out to her family and friends in this time of grief.”

Becker appeared on the Miami-set season 5 of MTV's The Real World in 1996 at the age of 25. A comic book store worker from La Jolla, Calif., Becker was best known for her love of skateboarding. Alongside Dan Renzi, Melissa Padrón, Joe Patane, Cynthia Roberts, Flora Alekseyeva, and Mike Lambert, Becker was tasked with conceptualizing a startup business with $50,000.

Several of Becker's former costars have spoken out in the wake of her death. Renzi called the news "very sad," noting that he didn't know about her mental health struggles as they have not spoken since the end of the show.

“The seven of us in that cast went through a bizarre, intense and sometimes traumatic experience together, and that creates a connection between people, even when they choose not to associate with each other," Renzi wrote on Instagram.

Roberts paid homage to her former roomie on an Instagram Story, writing, "I pray there's happiness for you on the other side."

Alekseyeva remembered Becker as "the most selfless person I knew," writing on Instagram, "She was always kind and helpful to everyone. I haven’t spoken to her in years and never knew she was troubled. My prayers go out to her family. May you skate with angels and never feel pain again."
