A much-loved Edinburgh yoga studio has announced their closure, with residents gutted at the news.

Meadowlark said they are full of "gratitude and emotion", as they confirmed their last day would be on May 31. They've asked locals to keep bringing "smiling faces and authentic energy" until they close up.

They opened on Argyle Place by the Meadows 12 years ago, and have been firm favourites with exercise enthusiasts since. One resident said the spot was like a "second home" for them.

Meadowlark Yoga said: "With hearts full of gratitude and emotion, Meadowlark will be closing on May 31.

"We’ve had many of you ask how you could help, which has meant the world. If we could ask anything of you now, it would be to please keep bringing your smiling faces and beautiful authentic energy into the studio as much as you can during May.

"May can very much be a time of joy as we celebrate 12 years of practising on the Meadows together. Our client base is more than that — we are friends, teachers and students, neighbours, colleagues, and it must be said... family.

"12 years at 43 Argyle Place is a triumph we can all feel a part of, celebrate, and remember with such fondness during this last month of the cherry blossoms. Over the years, we have been very fortunate to have had crucial support from the two fellow local studio owners who have weathered many storms in camaraderie with Meadowlark — both the @tribeyoga team and our friends at @hotyogaedinburgh have been hugely supportive and have offered to honour any outstanding blocks of classes still remaining after May at their lovely, friendly studios within walking distance of Marchmont.

"To the wider community — be assured that your investment in our offering is being handled with the utmost respect as we navigate the intricacies of winding up. We are working behind the scenes on the admin required to prorate all memberships.

"In the meantime, please make use of your passes and practice at Meadowlark as much as you can this month! Closing up after 12 years is expensive on so many levels, and we would be so grateful if you can shout it from the rooftops - book drop-in classes and use your blocks, bring us your smiles and let’s remember all the joy. With all the love and so much gratitude."

Locals were gutted at the news, with many quick to comment with "joyful memories".

"Wow grateful indeed. I’ve met some wonderful people and friends along the way being part of this community. All the best on your journey’s to come."
