3 dead, at least 2 vehicles catch fire after collisions in Laval, Que.

Three people have died following a series of collisions on a regional road in Laval, Que., that involved four vehicles, with two of them catching fire.

At around 2 p.m. Friday, a semi-trailer collided head-on with a car while travelling on Route 335 near St-Saëns Street E. in the city's Auteuil district, according to Laval police.

Police say that collision then led to at least two other vehicles being hit.

Two vehicles, one of them the 53-foot truck, caught fire.

Two people died at the scene, according to paramedic service Urgences-santé. Saturday, Laval police confirmed a third person died.

Three people — a 35-year-old man, a pregnant 28-year-old woman and a seven-year-old — suffered injuries and were taken to hospital, but their lives are not in danger.

Urgences-santé could not confirm the ages of the victims who died.

As of late Friday afternoon, emergency crews were still on scene. A stretch of Route 335 was closed in both directions until Saturday morning.

Police investigators are trying to determine the cause of the sequence of collisions.
