The 66-year-old told the ECHO: "It was affecting my health and my mental health. It was when I saw a photograph my daughter-in-law took of me in the garden - I went 'oh my goodness I've got to do something about this.' I'd gained about six stone.

"I was disgusted with myself. It wasn't me. I didn't recognise myself."

Irene signed up to a Slimming World group in Dingle and went on to lose 6st 1.5lb, slimming down from 19st 1.5lb to 12st 13lbs. Irene has also dropped four dress sizes, going from a size 22 to a size 14.

She said: "I joined Slimming World in 2022 and I lost weight every week. I felt frumpy and I felt old in myself.

"I've changed my life around. I can't believe it. I don't even look like the same person, I'm not the same person. I've got more energy and I'm getting out a lot more.

"I feel so much healthier and a lot brighter. Before I was down in the dumps all the time, eating, snacking and drinking fizzy drinks.

"I've got a lot to thank Slimming World and Graham my consultant for getting me through this journey. It's just a lovely group - it's like a family atmosphere in there. They've all supported me so much."
