Mum who received surprise package of goodies realises she sent it to herself when she was drunk

A mum felt flattered after she received a luxury package full of goodies from a mystery person – until she realised she had sent it to HERSELF when she was drunk.

Pauline O’Neill opened the box to find a massive haul of cosmetics along with a note that read: “You need a treat – this should help you unwind.”

It was only after the 34-year-old read the note that she realised she had written it herself after a rare drinking session the week before.

Pauline had enjoyed a bottle of red wine all to herself and once she was drunk, she logged onto the Lush website to splash out £30 on three bath oils, a body scrub, a lip scrub, a pumice and a ‘unicorn horn’ bubble bar.

When the package turned up, Pauline, from Southend, Essex, was initially a little confused – until she read the note.

It read: “Hey u. U need a treat, some down time. So this should hopefully help you unwind. So unwind and enjoy… Lots of love from urgent [your] 3am self £redwinemademedoit.”

Pauline said: “I was stunned, I didn’t think it was right and logged onto my online banking – and there’s an invoice for £30 for things bought at Lush.

“I just started laughing and the friends I’ve shown think it’s hilarious but why the hell would anyone do something like that?

“Who drinks red wine, buys themselves a present and writes themselves a note? Oh the shame.

“I don’t usually drink as I’m only 4ft 10 I can’t really hold my drink, but in the last couple of months I’ve had the odd drink here and there.

“I got a lovely, and quite expensive, bottle of rioja for Christmas – I planned to have one glass and ended up drinking the bottle.”

Despite the cosmetics haul, Pauline said that most of it was a waste as she was only interested in the lip scrub.

She added: “I think the colours attracted me – my kids love the colours the Lush products turn the bath water and the unicorn stuff is all big at the moment.

“I also like bath oils and salts, but I’ve no idea why I got a pumice stone – I don’t need one.”

Pauline also managed to attempt to buy some Harry Potter goodies on eBay on the same night – but the transaction failed to go through as she had insufficient PayPal funds.

She has now vowed to keep away from her phone the next time she has a drink.

The mum-of-two said: “You shouldn’t be doing that at 3am – you should be sleeping.”
