Musician dedicates music video featuring Blue Lights star to late wife

A Belfast singer has dedicated his new music video featuring Blue Lights star Martin McCann to his late wife. Sharon Conley died aged 39 following a cancer battle back in November 2022.

Since then, her husband Stephen and her friends have been keeping her memory alive by raising awareness including by walking 50 miles to Carlingford to mark what would have been her 40th birthday.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Stephen explained that his music helps him to explore his emotions in the wake of Sharon's death.

"I had a lot of songs that were half finished and just sitting there so around August last year I sat down to try and write. The songs kept coming out and I thought that there was no point letting them sit there so I found a studio in Moneyglass and they're all dedicated to Sharon.

"Since everything that has happened over the last year and a half or so, it has definitely given me a push to go for things and try and do something with it.

"I feel like I have hit a wall for a good couple of years and it was only about a year ago that I started to want to write again. It has been a creative time and it has definitely helped me a lot."

Stephen explained that he had been watching Blue Lights and thought that Martin McCann would be perfect to feature in a video for one of his songs and after reaching out on Instagram, the Blue Lights star agreed.

"While I am from Glengormley, for years I had been living in the lower Falls and I had seen Blue Lights and thought it was great. I knew of Martin McCann because he was from the lower Falls and he does a lot for the community.

"I sent him a message on Instagram with some of the songs and asked if he would fancy helping me out by being in the video. I didn't hear anything for about a month then he got back and apologised for the late reply. He said he had listened to the song and thought it was amazing.

"My friend's fiancé directs plays for the Accidental Theatre so she helped me come up with the storyline, we got a really good videographer and it really seemed to click."

Stephen added that he hopes to eventually make music his main source of income but won't be put off writing and recording.
