Naomi Campbell Throws Lavish Party in India

Naomi Campbell has flown a star-studded guest list, including Kate Moss and Bob Geldof, to India for several days of lavish celebrations for the birthday of her Russian billionaire boyfriend.

Campbell, 42, hired the huge  Mehrangarh Fort in India that dominates the city of Jodhpur to celebrate Vladimir Doronin's 50th.

Singer Diana Ross was expected to give a special live performance.

The festivities included fireworks, traditional music, dancing and an elaborate buffet.

Workers had rushed to complete the extravagant decorations planned for the party, with a huge mock poster of Doronin as James Bond and Campbell as a Bond girl on display at the venue.

However, reports that a number of the 200 guests, including Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, were to have played elephant polo were dismissed by Campbell in a statement issued by her spokesman.

Campbell said she was "extremely upset" by criticism from animal rights campaigners suggesting that she was planning to hold a game, denying the sport had ever been planned as part of the celebrations.

Twelve chartered planes ferried the guests to India. They were then chauffeured from the city's small airport to their rooms at the Umaid Bhawan Palace hotel in vintage cars, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

"We have provided them with 50 policemen and 50 home-guards, who will take care of the security arrangements outside the fort and from the airport," senior Rajasthan state police officer Rahul Prakash told PTI.

Campbell has hired out all 42 rooms for her guests at the converted palace.

Doronin and Campbell have been dating since 2008 and currently live together in Moscow.

They have a record of throwing elaborate parties for each other, with Doronin hosting a major party for Campbell's 40th birthday on the French Riviera.
