NCIS star Mark Harmon has revealed that he cold-called his wife of 36 years, actress Pam Dawber, to arrange their first date.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Harmon explained that a friend had offered to arrange a group date for the pair to get to know each other. However, the actor decided he wanted to take a more direct approach and simply phone the Mork & Mindy star to ask her out.

"I said, 'Can I just call? Can I get a number and just cold call?' And so I did," he recalled.

"I got the number, and I called, and I got an answering machine. And I started to leave a message that said, 'We don't have to all go out. We could get a cup of coffee or something.' And then she was monitoring and she picked up."

"We went out that night and we're together ever since," he added, revealing the couple married exactly a year later.

Harmon is best known for his work on the police procedural show, starring as Leroy Jethro Gibbs from 2003 until 2021.

Following his exit from the show, Harmon has turned his attention to writing, with the actor set to release his first book later this month.
