Yahoo News Ned’s Declassified stars apologise after Quiet on Set controversy
Multiple Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide actors have apologised after causing controversy in the wake of the documentary Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
The doc features allegations of sexual abuse, inappropriate behaviour and a toxic workplace on Nickelodeon shows, specifically those produced by Dan Schneider. The biggest allegations were made about dialogue coach Brian Peck by Drake & Josh star Drake Bell.
In the days following the release of the documentary, Ned's Declassified cast members Devon Werkheiser, Lindsey Shaw, and Daniel Curtis Lee featured in a TikTok live and appeared to make fun of the matter.
Bell responded to a clip of the live and called the trio "Declassless".
In the latest episode of their podcast, the trio addressed the live, with Werkheiser stating: "A super shit joke came out that was referenced at Daniel and looked like I was talking about Drake, and it all overlaps. We f**ked up, I get it.
"We hadn't seen the doc, and everyone was asking for our opinions on it."
He later added: "Now having seen the documentary, it's so disturbing... and I get it. If I had just watched... especially that third episode and then watched us joking like that, I would be like 'Are they sociopaths? Is something wrong with them?'"
Shaw also added: "Even considering touching that topic or speaking on it at all now in the mindset we were in is so irresponsible. I hate that this happened.
"I hate that we compounded any trauma around this situation that means so much to each of us, and I am sorry."
Werkheiser also apologised to Bell in a Notes app screenshot post on Twitter/X.
Quiet on Set aired on Investigation Discovery in the US. It is not currently available in the UK.
