Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams is mesmerizing. The hit Netflix show, Wednesday, imagines the iconic Wednesday Addams character attending supernatural boarding school Nevermore Academy. There, Wednesday investigates the mysterious murders in the woods by a monster.

After eight thrilling episodes, the monster was revealed—but there are other plots remain unresolved, to be explored in further seasons.

Now, Netflix officially renewed the show for a second season. "It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world," showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement. "Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first."

"Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible," star Ortega tweeted in response to the news. "This has all been pretty surreal."

In September 2024, Netflix shared a quick glimpse of season two:

The showrunners have always had a multi-season plan in mind for Wednesday. "For us, it’s always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it’s looking at multiple seasons, ideally," Millar told Variety. "That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change. Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for. So you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve, but we certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons."

In another interview, Millar shared, "We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles. Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important." Co-creator Alfred Gough agrees, saying, "There's definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses."

Any future seasons would remain focus on Wednesday, as she is the titular character, but, Millar shares, "definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we were to get a second season."

Season two will lean into horror, according to Jenna Ortega.

In Variety's Actors on Actors series, Ortega told Elle Fanning,"We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more. Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously."

She also added, "We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great." (Ortega has previously shared she disliked the love triangle created for her character.)

In season two, Jenna Ortega is set to reprise her role as Wednesday Addams, along with the other actors who portray the Addams family: Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. (Zeta-Jones, Guzmán, and Ordonez will be series regulars.) In addition, Wednesday's peers at Nevermore, Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) and Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday) will return, as will Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who plays Deputy Richie Santiago, will be a series regular in season two. Also returning will be Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer, along with Fred Armisen and Jamie McShane in guest roles.

A new member of the Addams family will reportedly be in season two, but it's unclear who yet. "I would love to see Cousin Itt," Ortega said.

In April 2024, Variety reported Steve Buscemi joined the cast, reportedly as the new principal of Nevermore Academy. Thandiwe Newton will also star in Wednesday season 2, in an unspecified role, per Variety.

In May 2024, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed Buscemi is joining as a series regular, in addition to Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor. Newton will be a guest star, along with Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo. "We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces," co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement. In November 2024, Deadline reported Lady Gaga will appear on season two in an unspecified role.

And though Gwendoline Christie's Larissa Weems dies in the final episodes, Christie told TV Guide, "I feel like Larissa Weems would never be dominated by something as commonplace as death." Millar, too, adds, "It's a supernatural show, there are always ways people can return. Never say never, but at this point, she's definitely dead."

Could a second season of the show be on the new MGM+ platform or Prime Video?

Wednesday is an MGM Television production—a company now owned by Amazon Prime. But no, it will likely remain on Netflix. an industry insider told Vulture, who reports "the deal between Netflix and MGM over Wednesday was finalized long before Amazon bought the studio." In addition, Deadline reported, "Even though MGM has been restructured into Amazon Studios...no one expects that to derail future seasons" of Wednesday.

When does Wednesday season two premiere?

Production began in early May 2024 in Ireland, and will premiere on Netflix in 2025. No specific date has been announced yet.

We'll update this as soon as we learn more about Wednesday season two.
