‘Neighbours’ finale: All the storylines that need to be resolved

It’s a sad time for Neighbours fans, as the Australian soap heads towards the finale.

And in the lead up, the show has packed in a stream of tributes. A playful scene reminded viewers that Lucy Robinson (Melissa Bell) has been played by three different actors.

Her brother Paul (Stefan Dennis) shared an amusing moment with Shane Ramsay (Peter O’Brien) over the affair between their respective mother and father: “It makes no sense!”

A heartwarming collection of scenes are on the way, including an appearance from Lucy and Paul’s brother Scott (Jason Donovan) and his wife Charlene (Kylie Minogue).

But there’s also the matter of wrapping up ongoing storylines for our beloved Ramsay Street residents.

Can Susan defeat Izzy?

Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) is furious over the return of Izzy Hoyland (Natalie Bassingthwaighte). Izzy is the former lover of Susan’s husband Karl (Alan Fletcher), but is now dating their son Mal (Benjamin McNair).

The couple intend to buy Chloe Brennan’s (April Rose Pengilly) house, but Susan told Paige Smith-Brennan (Olympia Valance) to block Izzy from buying the place.

When Izzy clocks onto this, Susan insists that Mal must choose between Izzy and his family - and he chooses Izzy! But as Izzy gets involved with the wealthy Shane, what will happen when Karl and Susan learn what she’s up to? They won’t see Izzy’s next move coming…

Romantic reunions ahead?

Are wedding guests Chloe and Elly back together, or just good friends? (Fremantle/Channel 5)

Chloe was shocked when Elly Conway (Jodi Gordon) arrived to declare her love. But after their last go at romance ended in disaster, Chloe asked for some time to think about their future. She continues to weigh up her options this week, but will she choose Elly?

Now onto Paul and estranged wife Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou). His ruthless behaviour split them up, and Terese moved on with Paul’s half-brother Glen Donnelly (Richard Huggett).

But Paul and Terese are about to grow closer. A surprising discovery overwhelms Terese and causes conflict with Glen, who comes to a sad realisation. Forced to consider their lingering feelings, will Paul and Terese find their way back to each other?

What’s next for Jane?

When Byron Stone (Joe Klocek) announced that he was a sex worker, the painting of his fearsome great-grandmother Mrs Mangel (Vivean Gray) fell down in reaction.

Now, Byron’s mum Jane Harris (Annie Jones) is still at odds with him, as well as her on/off partner Clive Gibbons (Geoff Paine). A misunderstanding leads to more turmoil; and Jane’s disapproval of Byron’s lifestyle stirs up old resentments in her daughter Nicolette (Charlotte Chimes).

Worried she’s driven Nic away by turning into her judgemental Nan Mangel, will Jane make amends? And will she give Clive a second chance? Well, she’ll soon be distracted from Clive’s efforts to win her back when one time beau Mike Young (Guy Pearce) arrives, and a confrontation ensues.

Will it be happy ever after for Toadie and Mel?

Toadie Rebecchi’s (Ryan Moloney) wedding plans bring back memories that he and fiancée Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden) struggle with. This leaves Toadie making a grand gesture for their future. What will it be?

An old friend later pays Toadie a visit to wish him luck; but as discussion turns to pal Amy Greenwood’s (Jacinta Stapleton) absence following her confession of love for Toadie, will she be back to face the music? Will Toadie and Mel’s special day go as planned?

Will everyone leave Erinsborough?

Poor Susan is bereft when she hears that several friends are leaving the area. Paul has decided to move to New York; and sons Leo (Tim Kano) and David Tanaka (Takaya Honda) agree to join him, alongside David’s husband Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson), Nicolette and their baby daughter Isla.

Meanwhile, Chloe is also leaving - it’s now just a question of where she’ll be going! Glen and Terese are currently planning to move to River Bend, but it remains to be seen whether these arrangements will change…

It looks like it will be farewell to Ramsay Street in more ways than one.

Neighbours airs daily at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with the finale airing at 9pm on Friday 29 July.
