Neighbours star Colette Mann on Sheila's police decision

Neighbours spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Neighbours star Colette Mann has spoken to Digital Spy about the aftermath of the soap's big car crash stunt.

This week's episodes have seen Colette's character Sheila Canning get caught up in a shock road incident with her grandson Levi (Richie Morris) and his police colleague Yashvi Rebecchi (Olivia Junkeer).

Tuesday's episode (July 27) on Channel 5 ended on a cliffhanger as Levi and Yashvi tried to chase down criminals Mitch and Nelson.

When Sheila coincidentally passed by in her car, Levi was forced to swerve to avoid her. The police car span out of control and flipped over, leaving Levi and Yashvi in jeopardy.

Speaking to Digital Spy about how the stunt came about, Colette explained: "Generally we are briefed on big story arcs a few months in advance. Not necessarily all the intricate details in terms of stunts because that is worked out by the experts – director, DOP, the stunt and safety team.

"We'll then have more questions when the scripts are released, so there is always plenty of discussion.

"Sheila's involvement was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She came across Levi and Yashvi's vehicle as it came round a bend and next thing, their car flipped. It's very dramatic and was a huge scene to film – very Hollywood!"

In real life, Colette suffered an injury on set while filming the episode.

She continued: "In my enthusiasm to give my all to the scene, I completely dismissed the piece of scaffolding right behind me – and bang! About 30 people pounced on me to make sure I was okay. There was probably extra work for the make-up team to camouflage the bruising!"

In the fallout from the crash, Sheila continues to blame herself for Levi's terrible time with Mitch and Nelson.

When the criminals are finally arrested and this still doesn't bring Levi any peace, Sheila decides that it's time to tell the police the truth about Levi's childhood attack – something she should have done years ago.

Sheila believes that if the two men face justice for what they did, it will finally give Levi the resolution he deserves.

Colette said: "Sheila is quite tortured by her actions when Levi was younger and the fact he has epilepsy because of what happened. It's difficult to move on from that.

"She makes her decision because she finally wants it to be over and everyone can move on."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
