Netflix announces new 'block' on popular devices and viewers 'don't understand decision'

Netflix subscribers have slammed a "dumb decision" to remove a popular PC app feature. Netflix has announced ALL Windows 11 (and Windows 10) devices and app users will have support for adverts and live events added, but the ability to download content taken away.

Netflix revealed: "A new Netflix app for Windows is coming soon, which includes support for watching live events, increased streaming quality, compatibility with ad-supported plans, and more. While downloads will no longer be supported, you can continue to watch TV shows and movies offline on a supported mobile device.

"Enable automatic app updates from the Microsoft Store to get the new experience as soon as it’s available. Otherwise, you’ll be prompted to update to continue using the Netflix app for Windows." Netflix hasn't given any reason for ditching downloads on Windows.

One viewer fumed on Reddit: "Got a notification on my Windows Netflix app that an update is coming and downloads won't be a thing anymore on PC. There goes taking my laptop on flights loaded with Netflix shows."

"Adding an extra comment to say that I don't understand this decision. I don't get what it costs them to just leave it there...," a second said. A third said: "Yeah just saw it as well, it's really bad cuz I'm on the way 3 hours a day for work and use it to watch shows on the train. Now I won't have anything since Disney plus doesn't support it either. Sucks"

Another on Reddit fumed: "I came here to complain about the same thing. My internet isn't always reliable, having the ability to download shows is essential. Why even have a Windows app if you can't use it offline? Might as well use the site at that point, at least that gets updated."

Another raged: "They will most probably replace the native application with a web "app" and that can't support downloads obviously."
