Netflix responds to criticism over 'creepy' A Christmas Prince tweet

Netflix has issued a statement after posting a controversial tweet about users’ viewing habits.

The company has picked up criticism this week, after revealing that 53 people watched A Christmas Prince 18 days in a row.

Though the tweet was supposed to be light-hearted in tone, some users considered it to be “creepy”.

It also raised concerns about how closely the company is watching its customers.

“The privacy of our members' viewing is important to us,” a Netflix spokesperson told the Independent.

“This information represents overall viewing trends, not the personal viewing information of specific, identified individuals.”

The tweet, which was posted on 11 December, has been a social media hit, gaining more than 105,000 Retweets and more than 416,000 Likes at the time of writing.

A Christmas Prince, a Netflix Original, has received extremely mixed reviews, and it was initially unclear if the tweet was meant as a joke to promote the film.

Netflix’s statement, however, confirms that the stats are in fact real, and that 53 customers did indeed play the film on 18 consecutive days in November and December.
