Netflix's GLOW was reportedly almost axed after season one, and now one of the show's stars Kate Nash, aka Rhonda 'Britannica' Richardson, has reacted to threat of the wrestling hit being tombstone piledrivered into oblivion.

According to the Wall Street Journal's piece 'At Netflix, Who Wins When It's Hollywood vs. the Algorithm?', the streaming service was once very close to cancelling the show.

"There were serious conversations from the tech side pressuring the Hollywood side not to renew it for a second season," a source told the publication.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy ahead of her tour dates playing at Community and Standon Calling festivals, Kate Nash revealed she had "no idea" about the potential axing.

"I had literally no idea about that. I will look into it, but I think it's a really special show and it tells important stories. It's like such a cool thing to be a part of, so I'm really glad that we kept going," she said.

When asked about whether Netflix gives its shows a fair chance, after the service revealed it waits just one month before it decides whether to cancel a show, Kate said: "There is a little over-saturation, but I think that's in music as well. It's one of those things where, if it wasn't this period of time, GLOW wouldn't be being made.

"It's this weird double-edged sword where loads of cool creative stuff is being made when networks aren't getting involved in crazy ways – the amount of freedom that our creators have to make the show they want is so unique and so cool.

"I don't really know much more about behind the scenes, I know more about music in that sense. It's hard for acts on major labels, no one is being nurtured in a way, I don't know if it's similar in the TV world.

"People expect results immediately – playlists on Radio 1, have a hit, get millions of streams and if you don't, they're like, 'Shit, better move onto the next thing'.

"There's just so much music out there, so it just takes a while for people to come up and watching and listening to everything. You don't have time to do everything in one go."

Kate dubbed GLOW season 3 "groundbreaking TV" and teased a new fan-favourite episode during our interview, which coincided with a new trailer for the hit '80s-set show.

GLOW returns to Netflix on August 9, 2019.

Kate Nash is set to play Community Festival in London on Sunday, June 30 and Standon Calling in Hertfordshire on Saturday, July 27.
