New on Netflix UK in July 2023: Best movies and TV from Bird Box: Barcelona to They Cloned Tyrone

July is looking to be an interesting month for Netflix subscribers, as the streamer will boast new content ranges from epic fantasy shows to exciting films and terrifying true crime documentaries.

The month will see Henry Cavill take his final bow as Geralt of Rivia with the final three episodes of The Witcher season 3, leading a stellar slate of upcoming releases on Netflix UK this July.

As well as the fantasy juggernaut, July will prove to be a big month for movies on Netflix as the streamer will also be launching its thrilling follow-up to Sandra Bullock's 2018 horror film Bird Box - Bird Box: Barcelona, which stars Babylon's breakout star Diego Calva.

Elsewhere on the film front, Pierce Brosnan is returning to the action genre with his entertaining new thriller The Out-Laws, and iconic pop group Wham! will have their story told in a documentary charting George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley's rise to fame.

Sci-fi fans will also be able to get their fix this month with the film They Cloned Tyrone, which stars John Boyega, Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris as an unlikely trio trying to uncover a government conspiracy.

In terms of TV, Netflix will be launching new comedy series Survival of the Thickest, while the first part of the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer will also return in July. Sweet Magnolias will also be returning with its third season in July.

For those looking for their next K-Drama fix, July will see Netflix release the hotly-anticipated second season of its military-drama D.P., or for something more light-hearted viewers will be able to tune into the reality show Nineteen to Twenty which follows a group of Gen-Z students as they navigate life in the final year of their teens.

Following the events of 2018's Bird Box, the dystopian tale moves from America to Spain for a riveting new story centred on Sebastian (Mario Casas) as he tries to survive in a world out to destroy humanity.

In order to do so, Sebastian forms uneasy alliances with other survivors so that they can try and escape the city as sinister threats begin to take shape.

In this action comedy, Adam Devine stars as a bank manager who is about to marry the love of his life, Parker (Nina Dobrev).

The straight-laced office worker will have his work cut out for him though as he starts to believe that his future in-laws (Brosnan and Ellen Barkin) might be the infamous Ghost Bandits.

Boyega, Foxx and Parris star as Fontaine, Slick Charles and Yo-Yo respectively, three people who work in the Glen and learn of a mysterious government cloning conspiracy.

Together the hustler (Fontaine), entrepreneur (Slick), and pro (Yo-Yo) will have to use their wits and street smarts to unravel the nefarious events that are at play.

In this documentary film, Netflix examines the rise of band WHAM! and how members George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley came to found the group, make a name for themselves and eventually dominate the charts by the time they played their last gig in 1986.

The movie was originally given a limited theatrical release in the UK, but anyone who missed it will be able to enjoy the candid film from home in July.

After ending on a dramatic cliffhanger on 29 June, season 3 of The Witcher returns on 27 July to reveal the fate of Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra).

There are just three episodes left of Cavill's run in The Witcher franchise, and they will see the actor lend his character a previously unseen vulnerability following the events of the first half of the season.

Survival of the Thickest | 13 July

Michelle Buteau stars as Mavis Beaumont, a Black, plus-sized woman who must learn to find herself again after being thrown back into the dating scene when she breaks up with her partner.

The stylist has to try and rebuild her life, but she is determined to thrive and not just survive as she faces everything life has in store for her in this comedy series.

Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) returns in the first half of season 2, which is inspired by the fifth book in the Lincoln Lawyer book series by Michael Connelly.

Following the events of season 1, Mickey is now a famous lawyer which means he will be taking on more high-profile cases. But with newfound fame comes new risks, and the lawyer will have a whole host of new issues to deal with in season 2.

The new season will follow on from the dramatic events of season 2, with a mysterious figure from Dana Sue's past coming back to haunt her, while Helen must figure out what she wants in her life after Ryan (Michael Shenefelt) proposed to her after she managed to patch things up with Erik (Dion Johnstone).
