Newcastle Ladies Day Style Awards - here are the £8,000 of prizes up for grabs in the best-dressed competition

Holiday vouchers, diamond jewellery, hotel stays and spa treatments are amongst the thousands of pounds worth of luxury prizes which will be on offer at this year's Style Awards during Newcastle Ladies Day.

The big day - July 27 this year - is always, like June's Plate Day, an annual sporting and social highlight at Newcastle Racecourse and it sees guests dress up to the nines. Many racegoers plan their outfits months in advance and the annual Style Awards are an added incentive to dress to impress.

This annual best-dressed competition is open to both men and women while model scouts also scan the crowds at Gosforth Park to look for those in stand-out outfits who might be interested in entering. During the course of the day, 10 finalists are chosen and then the winner is announced in the parade ring between races in the afternoon.

There are prizes for all 10 finalists with extra treats in store for those in second and third places and an extra-special gift bag for the racegoer in first position. The Gainford Group, which sponsors Ladies Day which this year will feature some post-racing Bongo's party live entertainment, has now revealed exactly what will be in those prize bags while Newcastle-based agency Tyne Tees Models shares, below, what judges will be looking for on the day.

Lesley Middlemiss Lister, managing director at TTM, said of the competition: “We are on the look-out for someone who exudes confidence, style and individuality. We want to see people going all-out this year, bringing their A-game to make this the best Style Awards yet!"

Racegoers will be able to enter the competition on the day, from gates opening at 11.45am until around 2pm, by visiting the Tyne Tees Models stand in the Grandstand Hall, where they will have their photograph taken. Lesley added: "Our 20 scouts will be floating around the entire racecourse, stopping those whose style catches our eye and awarding the winner of Best Style in the Parade Ring.”
