Newcastle star Anthony Gordon spotted with bloody face after 'freak' accident on England duty

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has been pictured bloodied and bruised after an unfortunate fall during a bike ride.

The winger has been left with a cut chin and red marks after falling off his bike during a trip out of the England camp in Germany. But Gordon trained today and is still in contention to start against Slovakia on Sunday night.

The incident happened during a recovery day following on from England's drab draw in Group C against Slovenia. Gareth Southgate has been reluctant to unleash the former Everton star during the tournament so far.

Speaking about his tournament bench duty so far, Gordon said: "I won't lie to you, it's frustrating because I want to play, I think every player here does. It's difficult because we have so many good players."

"Watching from the sideline at any game at any level is hard. You just want to come on the pitch because you feel you can make an impact, I felt like I did when I came on. Training is so good every day and it's just not clicking. Hopefully in the coming games it will because we need to start attacking teams and dominating games."

Former Newcastle and England captain Alan Shearer has also backed Gordon to start against Slovakia. He told BBC Sport: "It is difficult to judge players properly when they come on late in a game, but Cole Palmer did well against Slovenia, and we looked more of a threat.

"It was the same with Gordon, who had a couple of runs down the left, and, with him on the pitch, we probably looked more dangerous down that flank in the final five minutes as we did in the rest of the three games combined.

"The move right at the end that started with Bellingham and Gordon on the left and ended with Palmer’s shot being saved was probably the best thing we did all night."
