Newcastle United could be priced out of signing star despite Eddie Howe 'love' for £65m star

Newcastle United face being priced out on one of their long-term targets in Dominic Solanke.

Newcastle made enquiries in the last two windows on Solanke but the 26-year-old's £65million release clause only applies to a clutch of clubs. Solanke is being hunted down by Chelsea and Arsenal and it is understood that Newcastle would have to top £65m for Bournemouth to even contemplate offers.

As things stand, Bournemouth aren't keen to sell the man who grabbed 21 goals last season and helped Andoni Iraola's side to a 12th place finish. They see Solanke as integral to their plans and believe he is crucial to any top eight or top six challenge.

Solanke was one of the first to congratulate Lloyd Kelly on his big move to the North-East. But would he ever be prepared to join him?

Howe is a big fan of the forward he signed from Liverpool in 2019 when in charge of Bournemouth. He said in January: "Yes, a frustrating story for me because, yes, I love Dominic Solanke, I signed him and I rate him very, very highly. But we have not made an enquiry for him and we don’t have the ability to sign a player of that level."

Iraola's take on Solanke's future this summer has been simple, he said: "I hope he stays with us and plays a lot more games with us. But I don’t know what’s going to happen, not with Dom, nor with the other players."

Solanke has struck 77 goals for Bournemouth since 2019 and has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Saudi Pro League Al-Ahli this summer.
