Newcastle United transfer state of play: Minteh recall delight and Bundesliga star's agent spotted

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe discussed his concerns on the striker front in today's Press conference ahead of the clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Toon head coach has not been able to rely on both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson both being fit at the same time for the majority of the season and was asked outright if he was in the market for a new centre-forward. As the summer window creeps ever closer, Howe has been linked with two Premier League defenders in Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham and AFC Bournemouth's departing star Lloyd Kelly.

Here's today's look at the deals Newcastle could be involved with:

Yankuba Minteh

The 19-year-old has been on loan at Feyenoord but is coming back to Newcastle United - for pre-season at least.

Minteh has netted 10 goals for the Dutch side and won the cup in Holland in a successful loan stint since joining the Magpies from Odense. Now, Eddie Howe wants to take a closer look and will do so in the summer.

Howe said: "The plan at the moment is he will come back in with us in pre-season and we'll take it from there." Given the fact Howe has offered similar opportunities to Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley in recent summers, Minteh knows there will be a pathway to the senior side if he can impress.

Jules Kounde

The Barcelona defender finds himself at a club willing to listen to offers for the ex-Sevilla man with Newcastle assessing options at centre-back. That's due to injuries for Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman with neither going to be ready for the first half of the next campaign.

Although, Kounde would cost Newcastle £43million and there is strong interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Benjamin Sesko

The RB Leipzig star's agent has been spotted at St James' Park this season but has done the rounds in the Premier League too, appearing at Old Trafford lately.

The 20-year-old has scored 17 goals in 41 appearances this season and has a release clause of £43million. If Newcastle are to freshen up their frontline, he would be deemed an exciting fit.

Slovenia international Sesko has 11 goals for his country at such a young age and is deemed an exciting prospect.

Callum Wilson

Wilson has just one year left on his current deal and there is talk of clubs in the Saudi Pro League considering offering the Newcastle star a bumper pay day. The prolific centre-forward played down suggestions of an exit during his last press call with journalists insisting he was "contracted" for another year.

But in the world of FFP and PSR and with Newcastle aiming to reshape their squad slightly, it will be interesting to see if Wilson can add to his record breaking United tally next season.

Anthony Gordon

The Scouser has been linked with Liverpool in recent days but if there is one player Newcastle are in a strong position with, it's the flying forward.

Gordon is contracted until 2026 after arriving for £40million from Everton but is happy with life on Tyneside and is more likely to sign an improved deal than quit for a Premier League rival. If Gordon continues his success at such a rapid rate it will be the bigger names across Europe than will be eyeing his services.
