News Presenter Katie Derham Announced As Next Strictly Come Dancing Contestant

Strictly Come Dancing is less than a month away and we’ve glue-gunning sequins to everything in preparation for the return of the hit BBC1 show.

And today the channel has announced the next celebrity who’ll be fox-trotting their way around the ballroom – none-other than former newsreader and radio host Kate Derham.

Currently busy presenting BBC Radio 3’s ‘Afternoon’ show as well as hosting the Classical BRIT Awards, Katie will probably be your Dad’s favourite on the show.

ARE WE RIGHT, FELLAS etc. etc. etc.

Anyway, Katie herself is completely made-up to be taking part, saying that the show is a 'national treasure’ (HELL YEA IT IS):

“I spend hours admiring professional musicians and performers at the Proms and BBC Radio 3, so I’m thrilled to have the chance to throw myself into an equally demanding and beautiful world.”

“It will be a totally new experience for me and I can’t wait to get going.”

You go, girl.

Katie will be joining Corrie’s Georgia May Foote, EastEnders very own Linda Carter (aka Kellie Bright), worryingly enthusiast telly chef Ainsley Harriott, as well as BBC Radio 2 presenter, Jeremy Vine.

But whilst the newsreader is ready and rearing to go this year, back in 2007 she was very much dead against it, saying she’d be 'rubbish’:

“Would I go on it? I only think I’m a good dancer when I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine and I suspect that sober and in front of an audience of seven million I would be rubbish so I think I ought to pass on that one.”

Well thank god she had a change of heart, eh?
