Amy Winehouse's former Camden home will be auctioned after failing to sell on the property market.

The 'Rehab' singer's body was found at the semi-detached North London property in July 2011, and her family put the house on sale in May for £2.7 million but it has failed to sell. It will be auctioned for a guide price of £1.8 million by McHugh & Co. on December 3 in order to be sold through the headquarters of Bafta.

Amy's family had initially considered using the property as the headquarters for The Amy Winehouse Foundation, but the constant attention from fans made it impossible to set up the charity there. They were also inundated with "timewasters" who had no intentions of buying the house but were only interested in Amy's celebrity.

"Because of the nature of the house there were quite a few offers from people who weren’t in a position to buy," a source said according to the Evening Standard.

"There were lots of nosey timewasters and no progress was being made, so they felt an auction would be the simplest way of selling the house. The auction will vet bidders and only allow people in who are in a position to buy."

Although the property is protected by security alarms, three of Amy's designer dresses worth £130,000 that were scheduled to be auctioned next month, were stolen recently. The Grammy-winning singer's father Mitch Winehouse says that he is shocked that people would hinder something that was meant for a good cause.

"It's a blow. It's sickening that someone would steal something in the knowledge of its sentimental value," Mitch told The Sun.

"The house in Camden is being sold so all of her possessions have been tagged, numbered and logged in preparation of storage. There was a window of about two days while that process was underway when the dresses could have been taken."

Mitch goes on to reveal that there were several other designer dresses that could have been taken, but instead, the culprits particularly chose the anchor-pattern cotton dress which Amy wore as she wed former husband Blake Fielder-Civil in 2006, and the newspaper print dress she wore to perform on Jools Holland.

"A few people were involved and there was some coming and going. We're going through everything else to see what else, if anything, has been lifted. We are all baffled as to why some of her designer dresses didn't go too," Mitch continued.

"There were a couple from Dolce & Gabbana worth a fortune. Her wedding dress was only a little cotton thing, a hundred quid (pounds) at best in the shops. Whoever nicked (stole) it realised its significance and knew it had an extra value."

Amy passed away last year at the age of 27 due to alcohol poisoning.
