DJ Venus X Shuts Down Underground NYC Club Nights Because Of Rihanna, Labelling Singer A 'Dumb Industry Sex Slave

GHE20G0THIK founder Venus X has said that she will no longer DJ and will not be hosting any more club nights because of Rihanna.

The DJ made her announcement on Twitter, where she called the S&M singer a "dumb industry sex slave bitch" after Rihanna was credited by a number of media outlets for creating the 'ghetto gothic' trend.

Now the New York-based DJ has said that she feels Rihanna has been appropriating her "brand" and that she doesn't want to see RiRi cash in on her hard work.

"I work so hard for some dumb industry sex slave bitch to come collect all the coins and credit for my brand? @rihanna #ghettogoth," Venus X wrote.

"A movement born out of isolation, being the weird kid, political frustration and a desire to expand the idea of what is cool. #ghettogoth."

She continued: "Hate to say it but I can't continue building my personal brand if she's going to be credited. @GHE20G0TH1K was amazing...so was being a DJ.

"I will not be throwing any more #ghettogoth parties or djing. @rihanna thank you for teaching me a lesson. GOODBYE WORLD.

"We made history. New York was dead. The people needed a voice and a place to experiment. Thank me later. #ghettogoth".

Earlier this month, Rihanna attended the iHeartRadio Awards in a goth-inspired look which led to a number of outlets including E!Online claiming that RiRi had created the trend, especially as her Instagram page had used the hashtag #ghettogoth and #ghetto and #goth since last year before it was shut down.

In an interview with Dazed, Venus X explains her frustration with Rihanna.

"For a few months now I've been dealing with this Rihanna appropriation of #ghettogoth," she told the magazine.

"As (Rihanna) continues to be credited for a movement and idea that I cultivated here with a community of artists, and it is reduced to a mere fashion trend, it becomes more clear that without a comparable team and budget I cannot win."

On her Twitter page, Venus X claims to have been developing the GHE20G0THIK brand since she organised the first New York underground party in 2009 along with Hood By Air designer Shayne Oliver.

"DJ-ing to me means nothing without my club night," Venus said. "It is very expensive to keep doing Ghettogoth (sic) and it is a full time job so knowing that the things I do will never outshine her #ghettogoth looks because she refuses to acknowledge the culture that exists around her pushing me out the door."

"It puts a glass ceiling over the whole thing," the DJ continued. "I need to be able to grow and be supported, and this entertainment industry is not pro woman or pro authenticity so I need to move on."
