Godzilla Star Elizabeth Olsen Reveals Her Big Screen Idols: 'Jennifer Lawrence And Shailene Woodley Are Phenomenal!'

Elizabeth Olsen is moving out of the shadow of her older sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley and making 2014 her year. Her transition from indie movies to blockbusters has seen the 25-year-old score a number one film this week with Godzilla. So whose career is the actress hoping to follow?

Starring alongside Aaron Taylor Johnson and Bryan Cranston in Gareth Edwards' take on the classic monster tale, Elizabeth has made the leap to box office gold after a string of critically acclaimed roles.

Talking to Today, Elizabeth reveals that she made a conscious decision to chase more high profile parts, with her efforts also seeing her land a lead role in Avengers Age of Ultron:

“I was kind of just cruising on the ride for a little bit and not really making choices that might be strategic. And you kinda have to. I wasn’t working and not because I didn’t like anything,” she explained.

“I told someone I wanted to be considered for parts in larger films and she said, ‘Well, they don’t know that. How would they know that? All you’re doing are independent films. You’re not telling anyone.’ So I was, like, ‘Great, I’m gonna go to studios and I’m gonna tell them’.”

"It’s been a lot easier than I thought it would be", she admits of the transition. "Like, I met with Legendary and about six months later, Godzilla was calling me up... It was the same thing with Marvel. I got to meet with them, kinda nerd out for a bit, and they thought of me when the time came. That was really cool".

Elizabeth has also found inspiration in other actresses her age who have managed to combine critcial and commercial successes: “I really wanted to be part of something larger", she reveals. "I really wanted to be included in a group of young actresses that I look up to, whom I think are phenomenal. Obviously, Jennifer Lawrence and Shailene Woodley are phenomenal. Mia Wasikowska and Imogen Poots and Rooney Mara and Kate Mara … It’s a great group.”

“It’s fun to be an actor,” she admits.

Godzilla is in cinemas now.
