'It's Going Quite Well': Peter Capaldi Transformation As New Doctor Who Well Underway

With Matt Smith's reign over Doctor Who coming to an end, executive producer Steven Moffat has revealed that Peter Capaldi's transformation as the new Time Lord has begun.

Revealing that Capaldi who was announced as Matt's successor earlier this year, had already been out shopping to get ideas of how he wants his Doctor to look, the Radio Times quoted Moffat saying:

"[Peter] was texting me 'I'm out with [the wardrobe stylist] at the moment, it's going quite well' and some descriptions of clothes I did not understand. If it's not a suit.

"I'll just let them get on with it and it'll be 'yes' or 'no' at the end."

Moffat also went on to admit that he wasn't a fan of Matt's idea to wear a bow tie when they were discussing how his Doctor was going to look.

He recalled: "Matt said 'I should be a boffin, I think I need to go with the bow tie' and I said 'No, absolutely not, you're not wearing a bow tie - that's a cartoon idea of what Doctor Who is… Oh, you are going to wear a bow tie - you look incredible in it.."

Luckily Moffat soon came round to the idea, adding: "And from that moment on he suddenly came to life, and he put the tweed jacket on and suddenly he's leaping round the room with a biro pen and that was it - he was The Doctor."

Meanwhile, former Doctor Who star Billie Piper recently gushed about Capaldi's new role as the Doctor by revealing that the actor's casting on the show "makes absolute sense”.

The 31-year-old actress starred in the BBC drama as the Doctor's sidekick, Rose Tyler, when David Tennant was in the role.

In an interview with Flicks and the City about Capaldi's casting, Piper explained: "I think it's brilliant. I've always really loved him and admired him. I think he's a brilliant actor, I think he's both absolutely terrifying and credible with comedy.

"I really like the fact that he's a bit older and I think it will open a whole new set of fans. I think it makes absolute sense. It's a really wise choice."

Piper is set to make a return for the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who and has described the upcoming special as “a gift to the fans”.

She continued: "I'm just looking forward to the fans being able to finally see it, because there is relentless questioning about what is going to happen and I can't say anything.

"It will be nice to be rid of the burden of that enormous secret. It's like a gift to the fans really so all in all I think it's pretty exciting."
