Idris Elba Says It Would Take ‘The Will Of A Nation’ To Become The Next James Bond

Idris Elba’s name has come up in past discussion about who will succeed Daniel Craig’s James Bond. But time may be the biggest factor in a historic turn for the British spy series.

Idris will turn 46 when Daniel stops ordering martinis, “shaken, not stirred.” The only other actor to inherit Bond near that age was Roger Moore.

The Luther actor isn’t getting ahead of himself, though.

“I say it all the time, but if it was to ever happen and if I was ever to get offered that role, that would be the will of a nation,” Idris told The Huffington Post. “That would be like, ‘Wow, human beings are really powerful. They really made that happen, because Barbra Broccoli certainly didn't’ ... it would be the will of a nation because everyone has been saying that to me.”

In the meantime, Idris will play the legendary South African leader Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. He co-stars with current Bond star, Naomi Harris (Skyfall’s Moneypenny), who plays Nelson’s wife Minnie in the movie.

“See! We can't put Moneypenny [Naomie Harris] and Mandela in Bond! It would be like watching Mandela all over again!" Idris warned.

The Bond franchise isn’t the only big movie market Idris wants to conquer. Thor’s Heimdall wants his own superhero movie.

“I really wouldn't mind being the lead in a superhero movie,” Idris told HuffPost.

He’s already got his catchphrase.

“That's what I'm talking about!" Idris said as he flexed his bicep.
