Rumours have been swirling today that Nicholas Hoult popped the question to Jennifer Lawrence over the Christmas period... with a ring costing no less than $250,000.

However - perhaps unsurprisingly - the cover splash from the US edition of OK! magazine has been branded false by a separate source.

Gossip Cop cites an insider close to the Lawrence as saying: "This is completely untrue". EntertainmentWise has reached out to reps for both the Silver Linings Playbook actress and British actor Hoult for comment.

OK!'s own source had said: “Jennifer is walking on air! She’s madly in love with Nicholas and is the happiest she’s ever been.”

On why the Hunger Games frontwoman hasn't made some kind of announcement herself, the probably-false snitch went on: "Jennifer likes to live a relatively modest private life. She knows news of her engagement will make that harder, if not impossible."

OK! had previously reported the pair's alleged engagement back in November, adding that they were planning on starting a family ASAP.

J-Law is currently working the awards season circuit, after winning a Golden Globe for her role in American Hustle earlier this month.
