NHL-Highlights of Wednesday's NHL games

(Adds late games) Nov 27 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Wednesday's National Hockey League games: - - - Islanders 3, Capitals 2 (OT) A power-play goal by John Tavares with 23.2 seconds left in overtime lifted the red-hot New York Islanders to a home win over the Washington Capitals for their 10th victory in 11 games. The Islanders notched their fifth consecutive victory, the longest active win streak in the NHL. They improved to 16-6 for the season, a franchise record. Left winger Alex Ovechkin scored a pair of power-play goals for the Capitals. - - - Lightning 4, Rangers 3 Winger Ryan Callahan scored two goals to steal the spotlight from Martin St Louis as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the New York Rangers. The focus was on St Louis on his return to his old arena, but Callahan -- acquired in a trade for the winger late last season -- got the tying and go-ahead goals, giving him four against his old team in 11 days. Tampa Bay (15-6-2) improved to 9-2-1 at home. - - - Penguins 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT) Left winger Blake Comeau scored with 2:07 left in overtime, capping his first career hat-trick and leading the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pittsburgh (15-4-2) won their fifth straight against the Maple Leafs as center Sidney Crosby registered two assists, joining Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr as the only players in franchise history to reach 800 career points. - - - Kings 4, Wild 0 Goaltender Martin Jones made 28 saves and the Los Angeles Kings scored four goals in the first period and then played 40 minutes of defensive hockey for a shutout win over the Minnesota Wild, who lost at home for just the second time this season. - - - Jets 2, Sabres 1 Center Bryan Little and right winger Michael Frolik scored to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a road win over the Buffalo Sabres, whose three-game winning streak ended. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec made 19 saves for Winnipeg (12-9-3), which improved to 8-4-2 on the road. - - - Red Wings 5, Flyers 2 Center Pavel Datsyuk, back in action after missing four games with a groin injury, scored twice and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Philadelphia Flyers. - - - Panthers 1, Hurricanes 0 The Florida Panthers got their quickest goal of the season and beat the toothless Carolina Hurricanes. Center Nick Bjugstad scored after 21 seconds and it turned out to be the only goal of the game as the Hurricanes fell to 2-9-2 away from home, the worst road record in the NHL. - - - Flames 2, Sharks 0 Calgary goalie Karri Ramo stopped 32 shots to record his first shutout of the season as the Flames beat the San Jose Sharks, who have been held to two or fewer goals in 11-of-24 games. Center Jiri Hudler scored both Calgary goals, including a power-play marker into an empty net with 49.2 seconds left. - - - Blackhawks 3, Avalanche 2 Left winger Bryan Bickell scored a tie-breaking goal late in the third period and the Chicago Blackhawks overcame a strong performance from Colorado goaltender Calvin Pickard to beat the Avalanche.
