Jailed: Speeding driver who led police on 100mph chase through streets of Birmingham

This is the dramatic moment a speeding driver was detained by police following a nerve-shredding 100mph chase through the streets of Birmingham,

Nicholas Caddy, 25, led motorbike cops on a high-speed pursuit in Aston on 13 April, weaving a white VW Golf R through the streets at breakneck speeds.

After several minutes, Caddy loses control and smashes into railings outside a nursery before exiting the vehicle and trying to escape on foot.

Caddy, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, is finally rugby tackled to the floor by officers and is arrested.

Footage shows Caddy being tripped up by an officer who then shouts: “Give us your hands! Give us your hands!”

When he was quizzed by officers, Caddy said he had given a lift to a friend who had left a bag of cannabis in his car and panicked when he saw police.

West Midlands Police released the video of the chase after Caddy, of Minworth, near Sutton Coldfield, has been jailed for 12 months.

He admitted dangerous driving and was also given a 42-month driving ban.

PC Steve Lovering, who was one of the two police motorcyclists who pursued Caddy, said: “This was appalling driving at really high speeds through the streets of Birmingham.

“We worked out that the pursuit covered a distance of 1.6 miles and took 90 seconds, meaning an average speed of 64mph.”
