Nick Grimshaw To Host Top Of The Pops Revamp?

Cor, fresh off the back of his stint on The X Factor, Nick Grimshaw was lined up to replace Chris Evans on the TFI Friday reboot.

Now, the Radio 1 DJ is apparently set to become the face of another revamp of an old show, with the BBC reportedly keen to nab Grimmy to be the face of Top Of The Pops when it returns to our screens in the near future.

Top Of The Pops was a weekly staple on our TV back in the good old days, but it got the axe back in 2006.

However, the success of the ‘Adele At The BBC’ special that aired last month has got bosses thinking that there is a gap in the market for a mainstream music show - and the Daily Star claim that the Beeb want Nick and his fellow Radio 1 DJ, Annie Mac, to host.

Speaking about the possibility of revamping TOTP, BBC’s director of music, Bob Shennan, said: “Top Gear was reborn and reinvented to be about much, much more than cars.

“I guess that’s a good analogy for what we’re talking about. We’re not just talking about straight music; we’re talking about extra elements and uniqueness.

“If just bringing back ‘Top of the Pops’ was such a straightforward and obvious thing to do, somebody on some channel would have done it.

“The challenge is to find a new way to bring it to mainstream audiences. We’re going to have to find a new twist.”

While we wait with bated breath to find out if our fave music show will be returning to our lives, it has been confirmed that two Top Of The Pops specials hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates will air on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, with Little Mix, Rita Ora, and James Bay performing.
