Nickelodeon's Rugrats rebooted for TV and movie

From Digital Spy

Rugrats will prove that a baby's gotta do what a baby's gotta do to a whole new generation.

The classic Nickelodeon cartoon from the 1990s is making a comeback, following the success of recent revivals of the channel's '90s properties like Rocko's Modern Life, Kenan and Kel, Double Dare and Hey Arnold.

Nickelodeon has ordered 26 new animated episodes of Rugrats and will also partner with Paramount Pictures for a live-action movie that will integrate CGI characters.

Both projects will feature fan-favourites like Tommy, Chuckie, Angelica and twins Phil and Lil, in addition to introducing brand new characters.

Nickelodeon president Sarah Levy announced: "Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures.

"What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can't wait for today's kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals."

"Kids who grew up with Tommy Pickles and the Rugrats crew will now be able to share that experience with their own children," Paramount Pictures president Brian Robbins added.

Rugrats originally premiered on Nickelodeon back in 1991, and has previously spun off three feature films as well as the more tween-centric animated series All Grown Up!, which ran from 2003 to 2008.
