Nicola Adams welcomes first child with girlfriend Ella Baig

Former boxer and Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams has welcomed her first child with girlfriend Ella Baig.

Adams announced in February that she was expecting a child and the couple's baby boy was born on Saturday morning.

In a joint statement, Adams and Baig said: "We are so excited to announce to the world that baby Adams has arrived. The first moment we laid eyes on you we felt an instant love and the strongest bond. We went to the moon and back to get you and we can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives watching you grow."

The couple have not revealed the name of their child.

There is already an Instagram account for the baby which has amassed nearly 2000 followers.

Adams also posted a number of pictures showing the three of them in hospital smiling with the baby.

Adams, who won an Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, also posted her own statement which said: "We are so excited to have welcomed our son into the world on Saturday morning at around 7am. Nothing prepares you for this moment in life but I am so overwhelmed with love and proud of Ella."

The couple have been open about trying to conceive since 2019. They also went through two rounds of failed IVF and Baig also suffered a miscarriage.

A number of stars such as Fleur East and Clara Amfo congratulated the couple on their child.

The former professional boxer, who retired undefeated, made history in 2020 as part of Strictly Come Dancing's first same-sex pairing alongside Katya Jones.

They were forced to leave the series early after Jones tested positive for COVID-19.

The 39-year-old has also appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox, The Great Celebrity Bake Off and Steph's Packed Lunch.
